if I say it in a simple meaning sodium has valency 1+ and Calcium also has valency 2+
sodium has valency oneplus because it has 1 electrons in its outermost shell which it donates to acquire positive valency.
calcium has valency 2 + because it has 2 electrons in its outermost shell which is donated by it to acquire the positive valency of 2.
