Plants transport nutrients and water throughout their body by:
- The plants absorb water and nutrients through the xylem.
- The plant absorbs water through the root hairs by osmosis and after that water is transported by xylem elements.
- The cells of the xylem make ion channels in roots, stems and leaves. these ion channels are interconnected.
- Due to transpiration, there is a continuous loss of water through the leaf surfaces. only a small quantity is kept by plants to carry out photosynthesis.
- Loss of water through transpiration builds suction pressure which pulls water through cohesion adhesion from the xylem to the other parts of the plants.
