Capacitance is the Physical quantity which reperesent the capacity to hold or store the charge in a conductor...The device we used to stire the charge is called Capacitor...The capacity of capacitor which we measure here in terms of capacitance...


As we know that when we charge the conductor or give charge to conductor its potential increases and potential drops when charges are removed from the conductor...

q is directly proportional to V
=> q = Cv
where C = constant of proportionality , This C is constant here and is called Capacitance...

So C = q / V , By this relation we measure Capacitance of a Capacitor and its si unit is Farad ( F )...

But also C = A € / d ---- ( i )
Where A = Area of the plate , € = permitivity of free space and d = speration of two plates...
The Equation ( i ) states that C depends on its Geometry i.e A = Area and d = seperation between the plates...
