Option B - Summers are hot, the winters cold, and rainfall is low throughout the year.

Explanation :-

Characteristics of Grasslands :-

  • Regions :- grasslands occur in the dry temperate interiors of all continents except Antarctica.

  • Climate :- Rainfall is not high enough to produce a forest, nor light enough to form a desert.

  • Flora :- They contain grasses and other erect herbs usually without trees or shrubs.

  • There are few trees in true grasslands, either because the climate is too dry or the soil is too poor. In other areas, grasslands develop because grazing and browsing by wild animals, frequent fires or both prevents tree seedlings from growing.

  • Fauna :- In tall grass prairies, there are herds of bison and elk; also wolves, coyotes, dogs, foxes, snakes, and birds.

Special features :-

  • Grasses keep on growing no matter how much they are grazed, because their growing points are situated low down near the soil.

  • The roots and underground stems of many grasses form a thick continuous underground mat.

  • Being wind-pollinated plants, grasses need not attract insects for pollination. So their flowers tend to be small and modest.

  • More than 90% of North American tallgrass prairies have been converted into agricultural land.

There are two main types of grasslands :-

  • Temperate grasslands occur where the summers are hot, the winters cold, and rainfall is low throughout the year.

  • Tropical grasslands occur where temperatures are relatively high all year round and rainfall occurs seasonally.

Hope It helps you
