Metaphor – Definition: (Poetic device) It is the comparison between two different things. It is also the comparison of two things that don't use "like" or "as".

Examples – “Her fingers danced across the keyboard”

Alliteration – Definition: (Poetic device) Repeated consonant sounds at the beginning of words placed near each other.

Examples – “Fast and furious” “Lovable and Lovely”

 

Repetition – Definition: (Poetic device) the purposeful re-use of words and phrases for creating an effect in a poetry.

Examples – “Water, water everywhere”

“I was glad; so very, very glad”

 

Personification – Definition: Attributing human characteristics to an inanimate object, animal, or abstract idea.

Example – “The days crept by slowly, sorrow fully”

“The sun glared down at me from the sky”

 

Simile – Definition: (Poetic device) A direct comparison of two unlike things using “like” or “as” only. It is similar to metaphor.

Example – “He’s as du mbb as an o x” and “Her eyes are like comets”

 

Satire – definition: The use of hum or, irony, exag geration, or ridic ule to expose and criticize people's stu pidity or vi ces, particularly in the context.

Example – “There's no money in poetry, Coz poets are the biggest fo o lz”

 

Irony - Definition: (Poetic device) a contradiction of expectation between what is said and what is meant or an inco ngruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs. It is often connected to a fa talistic or pessi mistic view of life.

Examples – “Yet Brutus says he was ambitious;
And Brutus is an hono rable man”

“Water, water, every where, and all the boards did shrink;”

Water, water, every where, nor any drop to drink”.
