Apical buds occur at the end, or apex, of stems. Because of this location, they are also known as terminal buds.Axillary buds occur at a leaf node, which is where a leaf emerges from the stem of a stem.

Answer :-

Terminal bud :-

  • "Terminal buds" can be defined as the buds which arise at the terminal (tip) part of the stem of a plant.

  • Terminal buds grow mainly in that part of a plant where the concentration of apical meristem is the highest.

  • The growth of terminal buds plays an important role in the growth of the plant along with its branches and sub-branches.

Axillary bud :-

  • "Axillary buds" can be defined as the buds which arise at the junction of the end part of a leaf and the lateral side of the stem of a plant.

  • The growth of axillary buds is triggered because of the little amount of apical meristem which is left out after a certain increase in the plant's height.

  • Axillary buds help in the process of lateral branching of the stem.

Note :-

The angular structure of the junction of the end part of a leaf and the lateral side of the stem, is known as "Axil"

Therefore the buds arising on this part are known as "Axillary buds".
