Answer:

x = 8

y = 5

Step-by-step explanation:

\frac{1}{3} (x-y)=\frac{1}{4} (y-1)\\\\4(x-y)=3(y-1)\\\\4x-4y=3y-3\\4x-7y=-3

(4x -  7y = -3) × 5 ----- (i)

20x - 35y = -15 ----- (ii)

\frac{1}{7} (4x-5y)= (x-7)\\\\4x-5y=7(x-7)\\\\4x-5y=7x-49\\\\3x+5y=49

(3x + 5y = 49) ----- × 7 (iii)

21x + 35y = 343 ----- (iv)

Add (ii) and (iv)

20x - 35y + 21x + 35y = -15 + 343

41x = 328

x = 328/41

x = 8

20x - 35y = -15

20(8) - 35y = -15

160 - 35y = -15

35y = 175

y = 175/35

y = 5
