Answer

x = 6 , y = 36

Solution:

The given equations are :

x/3 + y/4 = 11 ------(1)

5x/6 - y/3 = - 7 -----(2)

Eq-(1) can be rewritten as :

=> x/3 + y/4 = 11

=> (4x + 3y)/12 = 11

=> 4x + 3y = 11•12

=> 4x + 3y = 132 ------(3)

Eq-(2) can be rewritten as :

=> (5x - 2y)/6 = -7

=> 5x - 2y = -7•6

=> 5x - 2y = - 42 -----(4)

Now,

Multiplying eq-(3) with 2 , we get ;

=> 2•( 4x + 3y ) = 132•2

=> 8x + 6y = 264 ------(5)

Also,

Multiplying eq-(4) with 3 , we get ;

=> 3•( 5x - 2y ) = - 42•3

=> 15x - 6y = - 126 -------(6)

Now,

Adding eq-(5) and (6) , we get ;

=> 8x + 6y + 15x - 6y = 264 - 126

=> 23x = 138

=> x = 138/23

=> x = 6

Now,

Putting x = 6 in eq-(3) , we have ;

=> 4x + 3y = 132

=> 4•6 + 3y = 132

=> 24 + 3y = 132

=> 3y = 132 - 24

=> 3y = 108

=> y = 108/3

=> y = 36

Hence,

The required answer is :

x = 6 , y = 36
