A mixture of ozone and oxygen containing 20% by volume of oxygen diffused through a porous plug in 172 seconds, while the same volume of pure oxygen took 164 seconds to diffuse through the same plug.
CALCULATE THE DENSITY OF OZONE BY USING THE EQUAL VOLUME.

Hey mate,.

The relative density of ozone will be 1.5

Explanation :

According to graham's law of diffusion, the rate of diffusion is inversely proportional to square root of density.

=> R₁/R₂ = √(d₂/d₁)

where ,

R₁/R₂ = rate of diffusion of oxygen/rate of diffusion of mixture = 172/164

d₁ = density of oxygen

d₂ = density of mixture = 0.8d₁ + 0.2d

Hence ,

172/164 = √(0.8d₁ + 0.2d)/d₁

=> 1.048² = 0.8 + 0.2(d/d₁)

=> 1.1 = 0.8 + 0.2(d/d₁)

=> 0.2(d/d₁) = 0.3

=> d/d₁ = 1.5

Hope it will help you with
