(i) Solutions which produce no flow of solvent through semipermeable membrane are said to be isotonic solutions.

(ii) A solution having higher osmotic pressure than some other solution is said to be hypertonic.

(iii) Solution having lower osmotic pressure than any other solution is said to be hypotonic.
