Question 1 :-

Let the old price be $ x a litre , then according to the question, new price would be $ x + 0.02 a litre because one dollar is equal to 100 cents.

It is given that he bought 20 litres of petrol at the old price i.e., $ x a litre and also, He bought 10 litres at the new price i.e., $ x + 0.02 a litre.

Therefore,

⇒ Cost of 20 litres at the old price = $ 20x

Similarly,

⇒ Cost of 10 litres at new price = $ 10x + 2

It is given that the total cost is $ 9.20

So,

⇒ 20x + 10x + 2 = 9.20

⇒ 30x = 7.20

x = 0.24

Hence, The old price of the petrol is 240 cents a litre or $ 0.24 a litre.

Question 2 :-

It is given that the age of vera is 4 years while the age of vikki is 13 years.

We need to find when would the age of vikki will be twice as of vera.

Let it be x years, we have

⇒ 2(4 + x) = 13 + x

⇒ 8 + 2x = 13 + x

⇒ x = 13 - 8

x = 5

Hence, After 5 years, vikki would be twice as old as vera.
