Question :

  • Why are commercial samples of bleaching powder not completely soluble in water?

Answer :

  • Bleaching powder Ca(ClO)₂ is soluble in water. However, commercial samples of bleaching powder contains slaked lime Ca(ClO)₂ that does not react with chlorine gas during the manufacturing of bleaching powder and thus, make them insoluble in water.
