Steps Involved in the process of nutrition in Humans are—

Ingestion

The act of getting, and eating, food is called ingestion.

Digestion

  • The process of breakdown, of complex molecules into simple soluble ones is called digestion.
  • The process of digestion starts in the buccal cavity and gets completed in the small intestine.

Absorption

The digested food is absorbed by the walls of the small intestine from where it gets passed to the blood.

Assimilation

The absorbed food is utilised by the body, for growth and formation, of body parts. This process is known as Assimilation.

Egestion

The elimination of undigested food from the alimentary canal is known as egestion.

The alimentary canal is made up of the following body parts-:

  1. Buccal cavity
  2. Food Pipe
  3. Stomach
  4. Small Intestine
  5. Large intestine
  6. Rectum
  7. Anus

The alimentary canal along with the associated glands (liver and pancrease) form the digestive galnds.

Nutrition is the process of obtaining food and then using it for obtaining energy, growth and repair of the body.

There are fine step in the process of nutrition in Animals :-

(i) Ingestion : This is the process of taking food in to the body by the animal. when we put food in our mouth with hands, we are ingesting it.

(ii) Digestion : Digestion is the breakdown of large insoluble food molecules into small water. Soluble food molecules so that they can be absorbed into the watery food plasma.

(iii) Absorption : The process in which the digested food passes through the intestinal wall in the blood stream.

(iv) Assimilation : the process in which the digested food passes through the intestinal wall into blood stream and absorbed food is taken in by the body cells and used for energy, growth and repair.

(v) Egestion : Process in which the undigested food is removed from the body.
