Answer:

Following are the important uses of spherical mirrors:

1) Concave mirror-

  • Shaving mirrors because when we see our face in the concave mirror then an enlarged and erect image is formed which helps in smooth shaving.
  • A concave mirror is used as the reflector in solar cookers, torches and in table lamps. Because it is a converging mirror which converges the light rays to a particular point (focus).
  • A concave mirror is used in search lights, head lights of motor vehicles as when bulb is placed at focus the light rays become parallel and travel larger distances.

2) Convex mirror-

  • A convex mirror is used in automobiles such as scooters, trucks and buses as rear view mirror to see the traffic behind the vehicle. The reason for it is that a convex mirror has a much wider field of view and the images formed are smaller and erect.
  • It is used as the reflectors in street lamp.
  • It is often used as the surveillance mirror.
  • It is used in making of optical instruments like telescope as produces enlarged images.

Large concave mirrors are used to focus sunlight to produce heat in the solar furnace. They are also used in solar ovens to collect a large amount of solar energy in the focus of the concave mirror for heating, cooking, melting metals, etc. These were some common uses of the concave mirror in daily life.
