Esterification is the general name for a chemical reaction in which two reactants (typically an alcohol and an acid) form an ester as the reaction product
CH3OH +CH3COOH-->CH3COOCH3

The term saponification is the name given to the chemical reaction that occurs when a vegetable oil or animal fat is mixed with a strong alkali.
CH3COOCH2CH3-->CH3CH2OH+CH3COOH
there will be NaOH as catalyst

\color{red}{Esterification}
A reaction in which ethanoic acid reacts with alcohol in the presence of catalyst such as sulphuric acid or dry hydrogen chloride gas to form sweet-smelling esters is known as esterification reaction.

CH3COOH + C2H5OH -------------->CH3COOC2H5 + H2O

\color{red}{Saponification}
Saponification is the reverse of esterification.Esters undergo hydrolysis in the presence of a base to form alcohol and sodium salt of carboxylic acid.

CH3COOC2H5 ------------> C2H5OH + CH3COONa
