\longrightarrow Spermatogenesis is the process by which haploid spermatozoa develop from germ cells in the seminiferous tubules of the testis. ... The spermatids are transformed into spermatozoa (sperm) by the process of spermiogenesis. These develop into mature spermatozoa, also known as sperm cells.

During spermatogenesis, a diploid spermatogonium (male germ cell) increases its size to form a diploid primary spermatocyte.

During this phase, a limited growth of spermatogonia takes place; their volume becomes double and they are now called primary spermatocytes which are still diploid in number. Now these primary spermatocytes enter into the next phase namely, maturation phase.
