स्वच्छता ना केवल हमारे घर सड़क तक के लिए ही जरूरी नहीं होती है।यह देश ओर राष्ट्र की आवश्यकता होती इससे ना केवल हमारा घर आँगन ही स्वच्छ रहेगा पूरा देश ही स्वच्छ रहेगा। इसी को मद्देनजर रखते हुए भारत सरकार द्वारा चलाई जा रही स्वच्छ भारत अभियान जो कि हमारे देश के प्रत्येक गांव और शहर में पराम्भ की गई है ।जो देश के प्रत्येक गली गांव की प्रत्येक सड़कों से लेकर शौचालय का निर्माण कराना और देश के बुनियादी ढांचे को बदलना ही इस अभियान का उद्देश्य है।
भारत के प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेंद्र मोदी जी ने महात्मा गांधी जी की जयंती 2 अक्टूबर 2014 को स्वच्छ भारत अभियान की शुरुआत की , स्वच्छ भारत अभियान को भारत मिशन और स्वच्छता अभियान भी कहा जाता है ।महात्मा गांधी जी की जयंती के अवसर पर माननीय श्री नरेंद्र मोदी जी महात्मा गांधी जी की 145 वी जयंती के अवसर पर इस अभियान की शुरुआत की 2 अक्टूबर 2014 को उन्होंने राजपथ पर जनसमूहों को संबोधित करते हुए राष्ट्रवादीओं से स्वच्छ भारत अभियान में भाग लेने और इसे सफल बनाने को कहा साफ-सफाई के संदर्भ में यह सबसे बड़ा अभियान है।साफ-सफाई को लेकर भारत की छवि को बदलने के लिए श्री नरेंद्र मोदी जी ने देश को एक मुहिम से जोड़ने के लिए जन आंदोलन बनाकर इसकी शुरुआत की हमारे पूजनीय राष्ट्रपिता महात्मा गांधी स्वतंत्रता से पहले स्वच्छ रहना और इसके तहत स्वच्छता को उन्होंने ईश्वर भक्ति के बराबर माना स्वच्छता की शिक्षा को उन्होंने सभी को प्रदान करी उनका सपना था कि( स्वच्छ भारत )इसके तहत वह सभी नागरिकों को एक साथ मिलकर देश को साफ रखने के बारे में सोचते थे इसी के तहत जिस आश्रम में वो रहते थे वहां रोजाना सुबह 4:00 बजे उठकर स्वयं सफाई करते थे ।उन्होंने वर्धा आश्रम में अपना स्वम का शौचालय बनवाया था जिसको प्रतिदिन शुबह – शाम साफ भी करते थे ।गांधी जी की यही स्वच्छ भारत अभियान को पूरा करने के लिए श्री नरेंद्र मोदी जी ने स्वच्छ भारत अभियान की शुरुआत करी।
स्वच्छ भारत अभियान के उद्देश्य।
(1) खुले में शौच बंद करवाना जिसके तहत हर साल हजारों बच्चों की मौत हो जाती है.
(2) लगभग 11 करोड़ 11 लाख व्यक्तिगत,सामूहिक शौचालयों का निर्माण करवाना जिसमे 1 लाख 34 हजार करोड रुपए खर्च होंगे.
(3) लोगों की मानसिकता को बदलना उचित स्वच्छता का उपयोग करके.
(4) शौचालय उपयोग को बढ़ावा देना और सार्वजनिक जागरूकता को शुरू करना.
(5) गांवो को साफ रखना.
(6) 2019 तक सभी घरों में पानी की पूर्ति सुनिश्चित कर के गांवों में पाइपलाइन लगवाना जिससे स्वच्छता बनी रहे.
(7) ग्राम पंचायत के माध्यम से ठोस और तरल अपशिष्ट की अच्छी प्रबंधन व्यवस्था सुनिश्चित करना.
(8) सड़के फुटपाथ ओर बस्तियां साफ रखना.
(9) साफ सफाई के जरिए सभी में स्वच्छता के प्रति जागरूकता पैदा करना.

(3)ग्रामीण विकास मंत्रालय.

इस प्रकार स्वच्छता अभियान में इन मंत्रालयों का महत्वपूर्ण योगदान है।
