Question :- The 25th and 75th percentiles of a frequency distribution are 72.18 and 103.99 respectively. Find the quartile deviation. ?
Solution :-
we know that, the Quartile Deviation is equal to the half of the Inter-Quartile Range .
So,
- Quartile Deviation (Qd) = (Q3 - Q1) / 2 .
- The first quartile or the lower quartile or the 25th percentile is denoted by Q1 .
- The third quartile or the upper quartile or 75th percentile is denoted by Q3 .
we have given that,
- 25th percentiles = Q1 = 72.18
- 75th percentiles = Q3 = 103.99 .
Putting both values we get,
→ Qd = (Q3 - Q1) / 2
→ Qd = (103.99 - 72.18) / 2
→ Qd = 31.81/2
→ Qd = 15.095 (Ans.)
Hence, the quartile deviation of the frequency distribution is 15.095 .
