Answer:

Given:

Velocity of light in vacuum =3 × 10^8 m/s

Absolute refractive index of water

= 1.36

To find:

Velocity of light in water.

Concept:

Light is an electromagnetic wave. It doesn't require a material media to propagate.

But it's wavelength changes in different media and hence its velocity also changes.

Calculation:

Let refractive index be denoted be μ

μ =

 \frac{vel. \: in \: vacuum}{vel. \: in \: media}

=> vel. in media = vel. in vacuum/μ

=> vel. in water = (3 × 10^8) /1.36

=> vel. in water = 2.205 × 10^8 m/s
