This is because acceleration in an object could be zero even when several forces are acting on it if the resultant force( F) is zero. We know that F= m× a. Now , when force, F= 0, then acceleration(a) has to be zero because mass (m) cannot be zero

Answer:

The acceleration of an object can be zero even if several forces are acting on it provided the resultant force (F) is zero as F = 0, ma = 0 and accordingly a = 0 (as m ≠ 0).
