The actual area of a rectangle was 60 centimetre square, but while measuring its length a
student decreased it by 20% and increased breadth by 25%. The percentage error in area,
calculated by the student is

= A2 B2 = a,b

a2 = a1 × 20 \ =4a1 \5

B2 = b,t + b1 × 25/ = 5b2/ 4

:. a2, b2 = 4a1/5 ×5b1/4 = a,b1
