The adjoining figure shows a rectangular garden. Its length is 40 m and breadth is
28 m. It has two roads, each 2 m wide running in the middle of it, one parallel to
the length and the other parallel to the breadth. Find the area of the road.
1) 136 sq.m
2) 80 sq.m
3) 140 sq.m
4) 132 sq.m​

Solution

area of the road

(40 \times 28) - 4( \frac{40 - 2}{2} \times  \frac{28 - 2}{2}  ) \\  = 1120 - 988 \\  = 132 \: cm {}^{2}

option (4) 132 cm²
