Not sure about the advantages, but the disadvantages may have been :-


i) Hereditary officers meant that the son or the heir of the previous officer will become the new officer.


ii) This meant that it didn't matter whether the heir was capable or not, he got the office anyway.


iii) Other more capable persons didn't got the chance to hold such offices, just because their parents were not officers.


iv) This provoked inequality among the people.
