Given - Ratio of age after 6 years

Find - Present age

Solution - The present age of the two brothers is 18 years and 21 years.

Let the age of brothers be x and x-3.

Now, the age of brothers after 6 years will be x+6 and (x-3+6) or x+3.

Now, age after 6 years is in the ratio 9:8.

Representing the given information in mathematical expression -

 \frac{ x + 6}{x + 3}  =  \frac{9}{8}

8 \times (x + 6) = 9 \times (x + 3)

8x + 48 = 9x + 27

9x - 8x = 48 - 27

x  = 21

So, the age of one brother is 21 years.

Age of another brother = x - 3

Age of another brother = 21 - 3

Age of another brother = 18 years

Hence, the age of the two brothers is 18 years and 21 years.
