let \: the \: sum \: of \: ages \: of \: 2 \: sons \: be \: x

age \: of \: man  = 3x \: years

after \: 5 \: years \: ago \: of \: the \: man = {3x + 5} \: years \:

sum \: of \: ages \: of \: 2 \: sons = x + 10 \: years

given = (3x +5) =2 \: (x + 10)

 = (3x + 5) = 2x + 20

x = 15

hence \: 3x = 3 \:  \: (15)= 45

•°•present \: age \: of \: father  = 45 \: years

Correct Question:

The age of a man is 3 times the age his two sons and 5 years his age will be double the age of his sons. Find the present age of the man?

GivEn:

  • The age of a man 3 times the age his two sons.
  • After 5 years his age will be double the age of his sons.

To find:

  • Present age of man?

Let present age of his two sons be x and y years.

∴ Present age of man is 3(x + y) years.

Their ages after 5 years,

  • Age of sons = (x + 5) and (y + 5) years
  • Age of father = 3(x + y) + 5 years

Now, According to Question:

After 5 years his age will be double the age of his sons.

➯ 3(x + y) + 5 = 2(x + 5 + y + 5)

➯ 3x + 3y + 5 = 2(x + y + 10)

➯ 3x + 3y + 5 = 2x + 2y + 20

➯ 3x + 3y - 2x - 2y = 20 - 5

x + y = 15

Therefore, Present age of man is,

  • Age of man, 3(x + y) = 3 × 15 = 45 years
