Answer:

let the son's age be x

father's age =24+x

after 2 years sons age=x+2

father's age after 2 years

=3(x+2)=26+x

3x+6=26+x

3x-x=26-6

2x=20

x=10

father's present age=x+24=10+24=34

son's age=10

GIVEN :-

  • The age of a man is 24 years more than his son .
  • After two years , the father's age will be 3 times that of his son .

TO FIND :-

  • Present age of son .
  • Present age of man .

SOLUTION :-

    Let ,

    Present age of son =  x

    Present age of man = y

    After two years ,

    Age of son = x + 2

    Age of man = y + 2

    According to the first condition ,

     \longrightarrow\sf y=x+24 \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ ..............(1)

     According to the second condition ,

     \longrightarrow\sf  y+2 = 3(x+2) \\\\\longrightarrow y+2 = 3x+6\\\\\longrightarrow 3x-y = 2-6 \\\\\longrightarrow 3x-y = -4 \ \ \ \ \ \ \  \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ ..................(2)

    Substitute y = x + 24  in equation (2) ,

    \longrightarrow\sf 3x-(x+24 )= -4 \\\\\longrightarrow 3x-x-24 = -4 \\\\\longrightarrow 2x-24 =-4 \\\\\longrightarrow 2x = -4+24 \\\\\longrightarrow 2x = 20 \\\\\longrightarrow x = 10

    Present age of son = 10 years

    Present age of father = 10 + 24 = 34 years
