AnswEr :-

• Son's age = 4 years

• Man's age = 32 years

Given :-

• The age of a man is twice the square of the age of his son. Eight years hence, the man will be 4 years more than three times the age of his son.

To Find :-

• Their present ages.

SoluTion :-

Let,

• Present age of the son be x years.

Then,

• Present age of the man is (2x)²years.

8 years hence,

• Age of son = x + 8 years

• Age of man = 2x² + 8 years

According to question :-

» (2x² + 8) = 3 (x + 8) + 4

→ 2x² - 3x - 20 = 0

→ 2x² - 8x + 5x - 20 = 0

→ 2x (x - 4) + 5 (x - 4) = 0

→ (2x + 5) (x - 4) = 0

• x - 4 = 0

→ x = 0 + 4

→ x = 4

• 2x + 5 = 0

→ 2x = 0 - 5

→ 2x = - 5

→ x = - 5/2

x = 4 [age can't be negative]

Hence,

• Son's present age = 4 years

• Man's present age = 2 × 4² = 32 years
