let the man age be xy

sum of sons age is x+y

xy = 2(x+y)

Five years ago

xy-5 = 3(x+y)-5
xy-5= 3x +3y-5

Answer: The present age of father = 20 years,

The sum of ages of the two sons = 10 years

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the sum of the ages of two son,

⇒ The age of father = 2x

The sum of ages of two sons before 5 years = x - 5,

While the age of father before 5 years = 2x - 5

According to the question,

2x - 5 = 3(x-5)

⇒ 2x - 5 = 3x - 15

⇒ 2x - 3x = -15 + 5

⇒ -x = -10

x = 10

Hence, the present sum of ages of the two sons = x = 10 years

And, the present age of father = 2x = 20 years
