Solution

Given:-

  • The age of father and his son is in the ratio of 4:1
  • The sum of their ages is 60

Find :-

  • Age of Father & his son

Explanation

Let,

  • Age of father = x years
  • Age of his son = y years

Now, According to question,

➡x : y = 4 : 1

➡x/y = 4/1

➡x - 4y = 0 ____________(1)

Again,

➡ x + y = 60__________(2)

Subtract equ(1) & equ(2)

➡ -4y - y = -60

➡-5y = -60

➡y = -60 )/ (-5)

➡y = 12

Now, keep in equ(1)

➡x - 4 × 12 = 0

➡x = 48

Hence

  • Age of father be x = 48 years
  • Age of his son be y = 12 years
