GIVEN :-

  • The age of father is 40 years more than that his son.
  • After 5years ,father's age will be thrice his son's age.

TO FIND :-

  • Present ages of Father and son.

APPROACH :-

  • Firstly , we will assume both father's and son's present ages. Then after 5 years , we will find their ages. We will make an equation from the given data and after solving the equation we can find their present ages.

SOLUTION :-

Let present age of son be 'x'years.

We know , father's age is 40 years more than his son.

Father's present age will be 'x+40' years.

♦ After 5 years ,

  • Age of Father → 'x+45' years
  • Age of son → 'x+5'years

Father's age will be thrice (3 times) his son's age.

→ x + 45 = 3(x + 5)

→ x + 45 = 3x + 15

→ x - 3x = 15 - 45

→ -2x = -30

→ x = -30/-2

→ x = 15

Hence ,

  • Age of son → x = 15years
  • Age of Father → x + 40 = 15 + 40 = 55years

Hence , age of son is 15years and age of Father is 55years.
