Answer:

present age of the son is 10 years and that of the father is 40 years

Step-by-step explanation:

let the present ages of the father and the son be x and y respectively

x=4y

x-4y=0. (eq 1)

x+5= 3(y+5)

x-3y=10. (eq2)

x-4y=0

x-3y=10

using elimination, we get,

y=10 years

now,

x= 4y

= 40 years

age of son = x

age of father= 4x

after 5 year the age of father will be 4x+5

and age of son will be x+5

a.q. 4x+5=3(x+5)

= 4x+5=3x+15

=4x-3x=15-5

=x=10.

age of son is 10 now and father is 40 now.

verify.

now age of son to pa is 10 to 40 I.e. pa is 4x after 5 years son will be 15 and pa 45 I.e. 3x.
