son's age = x-5 years

father's age = 3x-5 years

According to the question,

3x - 5 = 5(x - 5)

⇒3x - 5 = 5x - 25

⇒-5 + 25 = 5x - 3x

⇒20 = 2x

⇒20/2 = x

∴ x = 10

answer:

son's age = 10 years

father's age = 3*10 = 30 years
