Let the present age of Sonia be = x

And present age of Hamisi be = y

Now ATQ

The age of Hamisi is 1/3 of the age of Sonia.

y = x/3

x = 3y ...(1)

Five years ago

Sonia's age = x - 5

Hamisi's age = y - 5

Sum of their ages five years ago was 54 years.

(x - 5) + (y - 5) = 54

x + y = 64 ...(2)

Solving equation (1) and (2) we get

=> x + y = 64

=> 3y + y = 64

=> 4y = 64

=> y = 16

=> x = 48

Hence, Present age of sonia is 48 years.
