The ratio of their ages = 5:7, lets take x to be the common value for the simplification of the ratio of their ages.
That means that the age of Ramesh will be 5x, and that of Rahim would be 7x.
Ramesh 9 years older will be 5x+9 years.
Rahim 9 years younger will be 7x-9 years.
The age of ramesh would be twice the age of Rahim.That means if you multiply the age of Rahim by two you will get equal age of Ramesh.
---> 2(7x-9)=5x+9
14x-18= 5x+9 (add 18 to both sides)
14x= 5x+9+18 (subtract 5x from both sides)
14x-5x=27
9x=27 (divide both sides by 9)
x=3 (x was the factor for simplifying the ratio)
Ramesh = 5x.....5(3)=15
Rahim = 7x.......7(3)=21
Therefore their ages:
Ramesh=15 years
Rahim=21 years.
