The ages of A and B are in ratio 5:7 . eight years ago their age ages were in the ratio 7:13.find their present ages.

Let the present ages of A & B be 5x & 7x years respectively

so by the condition given in your question we get equation

5x - 8 / 7x -8 = 7/13

13 ( 5x - 8 ) = 7 (7x - 8)

65x - 104 = 49x - 56

65x - 49x = 104 - 56

16x = 48

x = 3

so

5x = 15

7x = 21

so their present ages are 15 & 21 years

A's Age 8 years = ( 5 x - 8 ) years

B's Age 8 years Ago = ( 17 x - 8 ) years

∴ 5 x - 8 / 7 x - 8

= 7 / 13

 \implies 13 ( 5 x - 8 ) = ( 7 x - 8 )

 \implies 65 x - 49 x - 56

 \implies 16 x = 48

x = 48 / 16 = 3

:  \implies ∴ A' s Present Age of 5 x years = ( 5 × 3 ) Years = 15 years

:  \implies ∴ B's Present Age of 7 x years = ( 7 × 3 ) years = 21 years

  • If two quantities let A and B are in ratio then the formula to find this ratio would be A/B.
