of a :-

age 3 years ago = x+4

present age = x+ 4 - 3

age of a after 4 years = x + 4 - 3 + 4 = x + 5

of b :-

age 3 years ago = y + 2 + 4

present age = y + 2 + 4 - 3

age of b after 4 years = y+2 +4 - 3 + 4 = y + 7

sum = x + 5 + y + 7 = x + y + 12
