Answer:

The age of Ram = 20 years.

The age of Shyam = 28 years*

Given:

Ratio of the ages of Ram and Shyam = 5:7.

Four years later,

The sum of their ages will be 56 years.

To Find:

Present age of Ram and Shyam.

Solution:

Let,

The age of Ram be 5x.

The age of Shyam be 7x.

According to the question,

Four years later,

The age of Ram is (5x+4)

The age of Shyam is (7x+4)

And, the sum of their ages will be 56 years.

=> (5x+4)+(7x+4) = 56 years

=> 5x+4+7x+4 = 56

=> 5x+7x+8 = 56

=> 12x = 56-8

=> 12x = 48

=> x = 48/12

=> x = 4 years

So, the value of x is 4 years.

Now, we have to find their ages.

The age of Ram = 5x = 5*4 = 20 years.

The age of Shyam = 7x = 7*4 = 28 years.

Given :-

The ages of Ram and Shyam are in the ratio 5:7 four years later the sum of their ages will be 56 years

To Find :-

Present ages

Solution :-

Let their present ages be a and b

Given, the ratio is 5:7

a/b = 5/7

7a = 5b

a = 5b/7 (i)

After 4 years

Age of Ram = a + 4

Age of Shyam = b + 4

a + 4 + b + 4 = 56

Using 1

5b/7 + 4 + b + 4 = 56

5b + 28 + 7b + 28/7 = 56

12b + 56/7 = 56

12b + 56 = 56 × 7

12b + 56 = 392

12b = 392 - 56

12b = 336

b = 336/12

b = 28

a = 5b/7

a = 5 × 28/7

a = 5 × 4

a = 20 years

Hence

Age of Ram = 20 years

Age of Shyam = 28 years
