Sonia = y
From 1st condition.
$\frac{x}{y} = \frac{8}{9} \\ 9x - 8y = 0......1$
from 2nd condition
x+y=34......2
multiply 2 with 8
8x+8y=272 .....3
adding 1 and 3
9x-8y=0
+8x+8y=272
17x =272
x=272/17
x = 16
put x = 16 in 2
16 + y = 34
y = 34 - 16
y = 18
Therefore
sneha = 16 years
Sonia = 18 years.
