The ages of two friends A and B differ by 3 years. A’s father D is twice as old as A and B is twice as old as his sister C. The ages of D and C differ by 40 years, find the age of his sister C.

We know that A-B=3y

D=2(A+B)=2C

D-C=40.....

D=2C.

2C-C=40 (substituting D=2C)

C=40.
