Answer:

The difference between the ages of Biju and Ani is 3 years.

Either Biju is 3 years older than Ani or Ani is 3 years older than Biju. However, it is obvious that in both cases.

Ani’s father’s age will be 30 years more than that of Cathy’s age.

Let the age of Ani and Biju be x and y years respectively.

Therefore, age of Ani’s father, Dharam = 2 × x = 2x years

And age of Biju’s sister Cathy = y / 2 years

Case (i) :When Ani is older than Biju by 3 years,

x − y = 3 …...............(i)

2x – y / 2 = 30

4x − y = 60 …...............(ii)

Subtracting (i) from (ii), we obtain

3x = 60 − 3 = 57

x = 57 / 3 = 19

Therefore, age of Ani = 19 years

And age of Biju = 19 − 3 = 16 years

Case (ii) :When Biju is older than Ani,

y − x = 3 …........ (I)

2x – y / 2 = 30

4x − y = 60 …...............(ii)

Adding (i) and (ii), we obtain

3x = 63

x = 21

Therefore, age of Ani = 21 years

And age of Biju = 21 + 3 = 24 years.

Question:

The ages of two friends Ani and Biju differ by 3 years. Ani's father is twice as old as Ani and Biju is twice as old as her sister Cathy. The ages of cathy and dharam differ by 30 years. Find the ages of Ani And Biju

Answer:

Given:

  • ages of two friends ani and biju differ by 3 years
  • Ani's father Dharam is twice as old as ani
  • biju is twice as old as his sister cathy
  • ages of cathy and dharam differ by 30 years

To find:

  •   the ages of ani and biju.

Solving Question:

  Let the ages of ani and biju be 'x' and 'y' respectively.

ages of two friends ani and biju differ by 5 years

x-y=3\:(i.e, x>y)......equ(2)

Ani's father Dharam is twice as old as ani

Father's \:age=2x

biju is twice as old as his sister cathy

2(sister's age)=biju's age

sister's\:age=\dfrac{y}{2}

ages of cathy and dharam differ by 30 years

2x-\dfrac{y}{2}=30\\\\\implies 4x-y=60........equ(1)

Solution:

Take equ(1) and (2)

x-y=3\\\\and\\\\4x-y=60\\\\multipltiply\:-1\:in\:equ(2)\\\\\implies 4x-y=60\\-1(x-y)=3\\\\Equate,and\:we\:get,\\\\3x=57\\\\\implies x=19\\\\substitute\:in\:equ(2)\\\\we\:get, y=16

Therefore the age of Ani is 19 and Biju is 16

you,will get  ,age of Ani = 21 years

And age of Biju = 21 + 3 = 24 years.

if you take y > x (Biju older than ani)

sahaju23: Hey ! the question says that ani and biju differ by 5 years....
KDPatak: then,you get , 3x = 55 or x = 18.33....
KDPatak: that is age is 19 years
sahaju23: then ok.....
sahaju23: Thank you
