It was endorsed in the form of a succession of resolutions at the 18th All India Akali Conference of the Shiromani Akali Dal at Ludhiana on 28-29 October, 1978. The resolution included both religious and political issues. It asked for recognising Sikhism as a religion separate from Hinduism.
