Answer:

base=12 cm and altitude=5 cm.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the base of the triangle= x cm and altitude=(X-7) cm.

Hypotenuse=13 cm.

By Pythagoras theorem,

(Hypotenuse) ^2 = (Base)^2 + (altitude)^2

13^2 = X^2 + (X-7)^2

 169 = X^2 + X^2 - 14X + 49

 169 - 49 = X^2 + X^2 - 14X

  2X^2 - 14X - 120 = 0

 2(X^2 - 7X - 60) = 0

 X^2 - 7X - 60 = 0/2

           After factorization, we get

 (X - 12)  (X + 5) = 0

 X = 12   and  X = -5

Here length can not be negative, so we choose X = 12

Therefore, Base=12 cm  and  Altitude= 12-7 cm = 5 cm.
