Concept

Arithmetic mean is often called average or arithmetic mean. This is calculated by adding all the numbers in a given dataset and  dividing  by the total number of items in that dataset. The arithmetic mean (AM) of evenly distributed numbers equals the middle number.

Given

We have given the AM of 15 observation which is 9 and AM of 9 observation which is 11.

Find

We are asked to determine the AM of remaining observation .

Solution

It is given that  \frac{sum\\\of\\\  15\\\\\ numbers }{15 \ obervations} =9 .

Sum of 15 numbers =9\times15=135

\frac{sum\\\of\\\  9\\\\\ numbers }{9 \ obervations} =11

Sum of 9 numbers =9\times11=99

Remaining number will be =15-9=6

Sum of remaining number (6) = Sum of 15 numbers - Sum of 9 numbers

                                                  =36

AM of remaining number (6) =\frac{Sum \ of \ 6\ numbers}{6 \ observation}

                                                =\frac{36}{6} \\=6

Therefore, the AM of remaining observation is 6.
