Solution :-

It is mentioned in the question that the amount of water flowing into tank doubles every minute and also mentioned that the tank is completely full in one hour or 60 minutes.

The tank was half full after 59 minutes because the amount of water flowing into the tank doubles every minute and after 1 minute it was completely full i.e. after 60th minute, it has double the amount of water in comparison to amount of water after 59th minute.

So, tank was half full after 59th minute.

Answer: not 59

There's probably an equation for this or something but waht I can say is that the answer isnt 59 minutes.  What i did was take 1 (could theoretically be any number) and made a list of every number (including 1) doubled (ex. 1, 2, 4, 8, 16) until i had 60 (number of minutes) numbers. Then i added every number in the list together and got about 1.130931147x10^18.  Divided that number by 2 and looked for a similar number on my list.  Obviously the answer (5.65455736x10^17) was close to (just slightly less than) the 60th number, but exactly what time did it reach 5.65455736x10^17 is a question i dont know the answer to...

Also might i add that the point at which the tank is half full is not close to the 59th number
