the ans is 4 but why not 1?

In this question the answer is 4 because in Oxidation reaction alcohols are made into carboxylic acid .

This is only a prediction not sure but thinks it will help u.

athul35: But in the question you have asked has only given one compounds that is A so conclude that it is a Oxidation reaction but the question was a compound A Plus water ant the dehydration agent is H2 s o4 then what you have asked was correct but here water is not there and dehydration agent is also not given so it is definitely Oxidation reactionary.

It is because of back bonding. The methyl group on the carbon will move to the next carbon and the hydrogen with oxygen will also get attached to it
