Question :

The area of a rectangle is 460 CM square if the length is 15% more than the breadth. What is the breadth of the rectangle?

Answer :

Breadth of rectangle is 20 cm.

Step-by-step explanation :

Given,

Area of rectangle = 460 cm²

Let the breadth be x.

Then, Length = x + 15% of x

Now,

Area of rectangle = (Length × Breadth) sq. units

⇒ 460 = (x + 15% of x) × x

⇒ 460 = (x + 0.15x) × x

⇒ 460 = 1.15x²

⇒ 460/1.15 = x²

⇒ 400 = x²

⇒ √400 = x

⇒ x = 20

So,

Length = x + 15% of x = 20 + 15% of 20 = 23 cm

Breadth = x = 20 cm

Area of Rectangle = 460 m²

let length = l and breadth = b.

So length = 460/b. & breath = b.

In question

Length is 15℅ more than breadth.

460/ b = b + 15/100× b

460/b = b+ 3b/20

23b/20 = 460/b

23b²= 460 × 20

b² = 46/23 × 200

b² = 400

b = 20.

Hence breadth of a rectangle is 20m.
