Given - Area and perimeter

Find - Dimensions

Solution - The length of the rectangle is 32 or 20 metres and the breadth is 20 or 32 metres

Let the length of the rectangle be x and the breadth of the rectangle be y.

So, the perimeter of the rectangle = 2(x + y)

104/2 = x + y

x + y = 52

y = 52 - x

Area of rectangle = length*breadth

640 = x*y

Keeping the value of y in the above equation.

640 = x*(52 - x)

640 = 52x - x²

x² - 52x + 640 = 0

x = 32 and 20

So, the length of the rectangle is 32 or 20 metre

The breadth of the rectangle = 52 - x

The breadth of the rectangle = 52 - 32

The breadth of the rectangle = 20

Or, breadth of rectangle = 52 - 20

The breadth of the rectangle = 32

Hence, the length of the rectangle is 32 or 20 metres and the breadth is 20 or 32 metres.
