The area of a rectangular garden is 140m2. if its lenght is 4m more than its width, find the dimension

Answer:

area = 140

length = W + 4

width = W

area = w(w+4)

140 = w² + 4w

0 = w² + 4w - 140

= w² + 14w - 10w - 140

= w( w + 14) - 10( w + 14)

= (w - 10)(w + 14)

so w can be either -14 or 10. out of it w = 10 will be right as distances are never negative

length = 14 and width = 10
