Let width be x feet

So, length = x +9 feet

Area = l×b

= x(x + 9)

= x^2 + 9x

But perimeter= 400 sq. feet ( given )

 {x}^{2} + 9x = 400 \\  {x}^{2}  + 9x - 400 = 0 \\ by \: middle \: term \: split \\  {x}^{2}  + 25 x - 16x - 400 = 0 \\ x(x + 25) - 16(x + 25) = 0 \\ ( - 16)(x + 15) = 0 \\ so \: x = 16

width = 16 feet

length = 25 feet
