Answer : 13 cm and 18 cm

Explanation :-

Area of trapezium :-

Area of trapezium :- = 1/2 (sum of parallel sides) x height

Given :

Area of trapezium = 279 sq.cm

Height = 18 cm.

one of its parallel sides is longer than the other side by 5 cm

According to the given question -

279 = 1/2(x + x+5)18

=> 558 = (2x+5)18

=> 558/18 = 2x+5

=> 31 = 2x+5

=> 2x = 31-5

=> x = 26/2

=> x = 13.

hence, x = 13 cm and x+5 = 13+5 = 18 cm.
